Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port 2017 wine marks the 30th anniversary of the acquisition of the historic property by the Symington family. Although 2017 proved being a challenging year, concentration, intensity and exceptional structure are the prominent features of this Vintage Port.
It reveals a balance and surprising freshness that contradicts the results expected for such a warm and dry year.
Although 2017 was one of the driest and warmest years on record in the Douro Valley, Quinta do Vesuvio performed better than most, with less pronounced temperature deviations, especially during spring. This factor has somewhat relieved the effects of dry weather and lack of water.
The vintage revealed the excellent quality of Touriga Nacional, Sousão and Alicante Bouschet. It was evident in the first fermentations, a deep color of musts and very fine aromas that showed great promise.
The end result is an exceptional Vintage. Awards and Distinctions: James Suckling, 2019 – 95 points / Wine Magazine – 18.5 points out of 20 / Decanter – 94 Points
