The Harvest Ports are wines from a single harvest that are aged in wood for at least seven years before being bottled. The Niepoort Harvest 1979 is a brownish-orange colour wine with green olive reflexes (which comes from the fact that it is aged for quite long in oak casks) and with aromas of smoke, notes of roasted coffee and orange zest.
In the palate presents a lovely contrast between a young and old wine, but with an excellent taste of citric fruits, with a long, soft and liqueur finish. The 1979 Harvest is a wine that is starting to reveal itself, even though it has more than 30 years,it is a very lively and fresh wine, although they denote the natural characteristics of an older Port. An excellent Port Wine to be appreciated alone at the end of a meal or with creamy desserts like cream brulé.
This is a Vintage Port for early consumption, a wine full of blackberry aromas and a floral touch; a second, very intense Fonseca's wine. A good alternative that you will wish to find out for yourself. Bottled in 2000
