Description

Fonseca Vintage 1992 Port

Ageing Period:
Aged for 24 months in oak casks and then in bottles for several years.

Winemaking Process:
Produced only with grapes from Fonseca’s three farms - Quinta de Santo António, Quinta do Cruzeiro and Quinta do Panascal – from a single harvest in a particular year. The grapes are trodden by foot in stone wine mills

Tasting Notes:
Opaque, dark purple Port Wine with soft berry-fruit fresh aromas and a delightfully fragrant resiny aroma.
It possesses intense black chocolate flavours and it is big, voluptuous and full-bodied on the palate, multi-layered and full of texture with a long and intense finish.

YEAR NOTES
The 1991/92 winter was drier than usual.
This dry weather continued during the spring, with light rain only in April and May.
In May, flowering took place earlier than normal and the heat, later in the month, ensured good grape-berry formation.
A long hot summer was interrupted by some heavy rains in late August and also in September.
The harvest started a week later than elsewhere in the region, on 28 September, and was rewarded with a perfectly ripe harvest.
The vintage notes, written on October 10 reported the following: "The balance of acidity is excellent and this, combined with high levels of sugar and a very good colour extraction, has resulted in exceptional quality musts. Weather conditions during the harvest have been the ideal for wine production."
