Fonseca Vintage 1985 Port

Ageing Period:
Aged for 24 months in oak casks and then in bottles for several years.

Winemaking Process:
Produced only with grapes from Fonseca’s three farms - Quinta de Santo António, Quinta do Cruzeiro and Quinta do Panascal - from a single harvest in a particular year. The grapes are trodden by foot in stone wine mills.

Tasting Notes:
It has a deep dark ruby colour and a red rim that becomes brick colour at its edge.
Generous and seductive nose, full of black currant and cherry.
Dense and luscious black fruit laced with dark chocolate, licorice and roasted coffee.
Exotic and resiny herbal aromas emerge an hour after decanting.
Later, the fruit becomes juicier and creamier with rich raspberry jam flavour overlaying the dark fruity base.
The full-bodied and round palate is supported by thick and well integrated tannins, offering plenty of flavour of delicious chocolate and blackcurrant, which linger in a long and velvety finish.
A fine Port wine that is between youth and maturity.

YEAR NOTES
The 1985 harvest was preceded by an exceptionally cold and wet winter, with night temperatures, in early January, well below the freezing point.
The grape berries’ formation was excellent and the grape bunches formed perfectly.
The summer was hot throughout the region without any rainfall during July and August.
Fonseca began to harvest earlier than many of the other producers, occurring in ideal conditions before the rain that fell at the end of September.
The conditions for incubation were ideal, resulting in an exceptional colour and density must.
