Fonseca Vintage 1970 Port

Ageing Period:
Aged for 24 months in oak casks and then in bottles for several years.

Winemaking process:
Produced only with grapes from Fonseca’s three farms - Quinta de Santo António, Quinta do Cruzeiro and Quinta do Panascal – from a single harvest in a particular year. The grapes are trodden by foot in stone wine mills.

Savouring Notes:
Port with a deep red brick colour (similar to Burgundy red).
With a brownish rim. It possesses a bouquet that is attractive, rich and spicy with ripe raisins, caramel and resin.
Port Wine with a lovely weight and balance and strong raisins, caramel and spicy flavours.
It has a good depth and a lot of persistence in the finish.

YEAR NOTES
The rainfall from October to March was of 40 cm, an amount slightly above average.
Spring was very dry and was followed by rain in May and June.
From July to October 1970 there was almost no rain and the harvest took place in ideal conditions.
The harvest began on 21 September.
The clusters were in perfect conditions and completely disease free.
Sunny days and cool nights resulted in musts with tremendous colour depth, but that took a lot of work.
The yields were high.

Tax included.
