Ageing period:
Aged for 24 months in oak casks and then in bottles for several years.

Winemaking Process:
Quinta do Panascal has one of the Douro Valley’s most reputable vineyards and produces wines that are Fonseca Vintage Port hallmarks.

Tasting Notes:
Deep purplish-black colour Port. Beautifully full, typically Fonseca, voluptuous.
With deliciously rich and poignant fruit - cherry and plum jam.
Rich and creamy with powerful, aromatic and rich fresh fruit aroma.
Nice touch of cedar.
Again, wonderfully rich, fruit full on the palate.
Rich, rounded on the palate with a licorice suggestion.
Port with tannins in large quantities but still very smooth.
Good volume and balance.
Long, nice, juicy and persistent finish.

YEAR NOTES:
The 2001 wine-growing season was marked by one of the wettest winters in recorded history, with extensive flooding and damage in the Douro region.
From April, the weather became more stable.
Summer had moderately warm temperatures, with a continuous breeze that kept the vineyards airy and disease free.
However, the long growing season and the almost total lack of rain from June until the end of August caused some stress to the vineyards.
Weather conditions during the first half of the harvest were ideal and contributed favorably to fermentation.
Two days rain affected the end of the harvest, but fortunately, the majority of the harvest was carried out with dry days.

Tax included.
