Fonseca Quinta do Panascal 1996 Vintage Port

Ageing period:
Aged for 24 months in oak casks and then in bottles for several years.

Winemaking Process:
Quinta do Panascal has one of Douro Valley’s most reputable vineyards and produces wines that are Fonseca Vintage Port hallmarks.

Tasting notes:
This Port has delicate marmalade, date and raisins aromas and some attractive resin and spices nuances.
Its savour shows some interesting flavours of bottle ageing as licorice, prune and leather.
Soft and silky on the palate, this is a subtle and elegant wine.

YEAR NOTES
The wine-growing season started with a very wet winter.
January and February were colder than normal, resulting in a delayed sprouting.
Cool, damp conditions continued until just before flowering on 25 May.
Flowering took place in warm weather which, combined with the large number of inflorescences at the time of sprouting, resulted in higher yields potential since 1900.
There was a considerable amount of rain in September that led many other producers to begin harvesting.
However, strong winds and warm weather that followed, between 27 and 30 September, dried the grapes’ bunches and allowed the grapes to mature fully.
This ended up reflecting in a strong improvement of all Port Wines produced from September 29 onwards.
